Maladjustice

My new job starts tomorrow and I haven't really learned a damn thing I'll be needing yet. I guess that's fine, since I'm not quite sure what I need to know. I'll figure it out. Still, I worry just a tiny bit. But I always do prior to first days... I remember being in Colorado the weekend before I began my last position this past November and the fresh mountain air mingling with not so fresh airs and all together getting a bit of a heart palpitation at whether I could pull that one off or not. Well, I did pull it off better than I thought I could. So I suppose I should chill a bit.

Classes are going pretty well so far this semester. This week has a couple fair-to-middle sized projects due that I've got a fire under my ass to get done. I feel like 2 of my CS classes are about 80% grad students, which again worries me a bit. But I could be totally wrong on that. Whatever, stop worrying, schlub.

A week ago the fab Finnish psych folk invasion hit Madison up, and I felt truly lucky to witness it. Lots of swirly drones 'n tones. A decent turnout... and it is nice that the Nottingham has so much couch space for zoning out to the mind twisting shows that occur there. And hell yes I was sober the whole damn time.

This weekend, however, was my birthday and thus completely different. At least on Friday. Many thanks to all that treated me with such kindness and with so much champagne. Grand ol' times, indeed. My parents took us out to lunch on Saturday and gave me some sweet gifts... a new pair of dress shoes and the Harry Smith edited Anthology of American Folk. Then, yesterday I got to go to Milwaukee as part of a tattoo entourage and wound up getting another myself. Pics forthcoming if ever I get off my ass for it (don't hold your breath).

Now I've gotta run and work on the projects for this week. Not like I'm keeping track but this is totally the 4th of 15 weeks of my last Fall semester. Keep on keepin' on, me.

Rock, Hard Place

Woo. Big changez abound and updates might be few and far between until I settle. My old job ended a week ago and classes immediately kicked into overdrive. I was registered for 18 credits to keep me busy as this was the first semester I had faced unemployed. But that all changed.

I just found out yesterday that I am getting a position as some sorta computer guru for a bioinformatics research group in the chemistry department here at UW. This is pretty much the most exciting opportunity I have had and I'm really looking forward to digging into it and probably not blogging about it.

I'll still whine about classes, though.

And I still am planning on some customizing of this sad blogger template as well as some other things. Including postings of raw basement gunk from our noise unit.

So there. Now you know.
